The thing I find interesting about this piece of driftwood is how heavy it is for its size. It feels more like shell or bone.

OK, strictly speaking this is not a drawing. I have been working on some small, non-representational watercolors. This is one I made today.

This was one of those What should I draw? nights.

This clunky old iron has smoothed many wrinkles over the years. And here's the best part: it's not avocado, or harvest gold, or even white—it's a pale mint green.

This is a little section of one of several stacks of wood for next winter. It's good to see it ready and waiting.

I had a hard time photographing this pale drawing of the gibbous moon. I used colored pencil and then darkened the sky a bit by going over the colored pencil with graphite pencil.

I did not get outside to draw today, but I am glad to have this cooperative subject. She is more than willing to snooze while I draw.

This week I'll record the daffodil buds as they grow and open. I have seen many blooming daffodils elsewhere, but we seem to have a cooler micro-climate here. I got home late today, and went out to draw in the waning daylight.

Sometimes I feel as though I have been cataloging all of the objects in my possession with this drawing-a-day project. Now that the weather is warmer and the days are longer I am getting outdoors more. We went hiking this morning and I used the hike as an opportunity to begin a new nature journal. Expect looser, "sketchier" drawings (and even an occasional misspelling) as I share this new visual journal with you.

Ron and I and the little dog hiked the blueberry fields of Little Blue Job Mountain this morning. It's been far too long since our last hike there.
